Upcoming Events in Chile
September 8th Dieciocho: a celebration of Chile's independence from Spain in 1810 during the Napoleonic Wars on the Iberian Peninsula. The country celebrates with parades, food, music, and festivities.

August 14-20: Santiago International Film Festival hosts a week of screenings at the four major cinemas in the city: Cine Hoyts San Asustin (Moneda St 835), Cine Hoyts Huerfanos (Huerfanos St 735), Cine Hoyts La Reina (Avenida Ossa 655), and Cineteca Nacional (Cultural Centre Palacia la Moneda). More than 90 films compete in national and international categories.

Nov. 30- Dec. 17: International Exhibition of Traditional Arts and Crafts: Located in the Parque Bustamante, this international arts and crafts festival is a huge annual event with over 150 artisans displaying their handcrafted artwork. This year's theme is the Colors and Textures of Guatamala. There are also live music and dance shows on the weekends.

July 16: Feast Day of the Virgin del Carmen-Street processions, food, music, and folk dancing fill the streets of Santiago and the Templo de Maipu on this special day. Chileans celebrate their independence from Spain and their great heroes.

November 13 to December 2: Festival of Contemporary Chilean Music: See some of the best national and international musicians performing at the beautiful Centro de Extension exhibition center at the Universidad Catolica de Chile. Performances are free and start at 8 pm.
