Chilean Spanish

Few Chileans speak English, so it would be wise to learn some key phrases before you go. Basic Spanish is easy to learn and will prove to be invaluable when needing to communicate about practical matters. Chilean differs a bit from classic Castilian Spanish found in Argentina. Chilean Spanish borrows words from other languages, mostly Quechua and other indigenous languages, as well as German and a little bit of English. Even with the rapid speed of the natives and their blurring together of words, Chileans are usually very appreciative of beginner's efforts.
