Lake Crossing Excursion
Boats departing from Puerto Varas, Chile head east toward San Pedro de Bariloche, Argentina. The crossing takes passengers over Lago Todos los Santos, All Saints Lake, affording absolutely stunning views of the Andean peaks that plunge into the emerald lake. The boat trip takes one, two or more days depending on the time of year. One day trips are offered during the spring and summer, but in fall and winter, longer trips are the only option.
The first views are of the imposing Volcano Osorno, and Montes Puntiagudo and Tronador, prominent features of the Andean backdrop on the way to Vicente Perez Rosales National Park. The park is home to Petruohue Falls, which gushes at the foot of Volcano Osorno, creating a beautiful photo opportunity. Multi day trips stop in beautiful Peulla, known for its pristine natural setting. A stay at Hotel Peulla affords visitors an opportunity to go hiking or horseback riding in the area, or to go fishing or kayaking on the lake's brilliantly colored green-blue water. Amenities include a café, restaurant, game room, and satellite tv.
After departing from Peulla, passengers pass through the Chilean customs point and cross the Andes by bus, winding down to Puerto Frias, where you'll board a boat on the deep blue Nahuel Huapi Lake, and cruise through lush vegetation toward Puerto Blest. Puerto Blest is the jumping off point for a quick trip to Cantaros Falls, which offers exceptional panoramic views. From this last stopping point, the trip continues by boat to Puerto Panuelo, where passengers board a bus bound for Barlioche. The one day trip arrives in Bariloche at 9:30 p.m. while the multi-day trips arrive at 6:30 p.m.
Once in Bariloche, you'll have the opportunity to explore the multitude of activities that make this part of Patagonia the most popular destination in Argentina. The city resembles European alpine resorts, with spectacular scenery, magnificent lakes and mountains, and outdoor activities like skiing, golfing, hiking, biking and whitewater rafting.
