Pucon Overview

Pucon has carved out a name for itself as one of the finest resort towns in Chile. Similar to its counterparts of resorts like Aspen or Beaver Creek in Colorado, the town attracts wealthy Chileans in search of a relaxing getaway.

With two National Parks and a Natural Preserve area not far from town, Pucon makes a great starting point for a Patagonian adventure. The parks have a lot to offer, from guided treks to a nature and discovery center, and acres upon acres of untouched forest filled with native flora and fauna and trails winding through them. Three sets of hot springs pools in the Rio Liucura Valley, east of Pucon, attract hundreds of visitors each day. They're are incredibly popular among visitors to the national parks, whove just completed a challenging hike.

With still-active Villarica volcano just south of town, Pucon has a color coded alert system in place that indicates the relative level of volcanic activity. A "normal" green indication usually means an imperceptible rumbling, and the release of gasses like sulfur through vents near the summit. Despite the volcano's imposing size and activity, climbing it is still the area's most popular draw. The town is infamous for the variety of activities available in the area, so keep an open mind and dare to be adventurous!
